On 25 May 2018 the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect in the UK. This will replace the current Data Protection Act and introduces new requirements which charities will have to follow, along with public and private sector organisations.

This high level briefing session will give and overview of the new concepts and approaches in the GDPR, including:

  • The key changes that charities will need to be aware of;
  • your responsibilities around collecting and using personal data;
  • the rules about opting in and opting out; and
  • how the changes will impact on how you communicate with your supporters.

At the end of the session attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions so that they can leave with a better understanding of what their organisation needs to do to get GDPR ready.

The session will be led by Laura Scaife from the Directory of Social Change. Laura is a data privacy, cyber and social media specialist and advises a range of high level clients on data projects and issues . She is also Managing Director of Datultacy, an independent privacy, cyber security, social media and data protection consultancy, as well as a PhD candidate and author.
